<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a>A two digit coding system is used:</a></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">IP-[X][X]</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>F<a>irst digit: </a>This defines the level of protection against the ingress of solids. This number ranges from 0 to 6, whereby 0 offers no protection at all and 6 is the maximum protection.</li><li>Second digit: This defines the level of protection against the ingress of liquids. This digit ranges from 0 to 8, where 0 offers no protection at all and 8 is sealed.</li></ul>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This system is internationally recognised and many products feature it on their marking.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a><strong>Test methods</strong></a></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The test method is defined by the protection rating of the enclosure or product:<br></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The IK rating is a code that indicates the mechanical protection to hidden impacts that could damage the integrity of the enclosure of a certain product. A standardised comparison between different electrical elements, materials and encapsulated items can be established.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A code ranging from 0 to 10 is established according to the level of mechanical protection, from minimum to maximum defined impact energy.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a><strong>Test methods</strong></a></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The test basically consists of simulating impacts with a cylindrical hammer on the tested enclosure. The test methodology is defined by the code and establishes a set of parameters such as:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Weight of the hammer</li><li>Height of impact</li></ul>
